Our Devon Adventure

Week 2

Hi everyone

Jane has just finished showing me how to blog and I am now allowed to type my first posting - so here goes.....
We're now staying in a fantastic garage conversion in a very rural location, where all we hear is the odd tractor driving up and down a very narrow lane. Within half an hour I was doing a spot of DIY on the window (it was loose and needed tightening up and fortunately I had my screwdriver set with me).

We start the day by watching lots of council estate people on the Jeremy Kyle show (it makes us feel better when we know that there are unemployed people out there worse off than us) and then we listen to 80's and 90's music on Lantern FM - life doesn't get much better than this I can tell you.
At the start of our first week here we've just taken it easy - apart from a 21 mile bike ride (we didn't know it would be that long!!) which was very enjoyable apart from one argument (we got lost) and two very sore bums.

We've finally started the ball rolling by placing some of our 'potential' business cards in some shop windows as well as viewing a couple of very cheap properties as possible investment opportunities. It's amazing what some people view as 'liveable' - every one of them so far needs gutting to meet our high standards but the rewards would be worth it. We may make an offer on one so watch this space and we'll keep you posted.
Devon life agrees with us and we don't miss work at all (especially me - sorry Pete!) but there will come a time shortly when we will have to bring some money in and hopefully we'll be working for ourselves.
We head back home end of September for a couple of weeks and to decide further on our next step.

Week One!

Hi everyone!

Well, we're here ! Having a fantastic week. Sun every day so far (touching wood). We had a wonderful wedding anniversary - we came down to the lounge being decorated with balloons and streamers by our lovely friends, Helen and Shane and they made us a lovely breakfast! Very spoilt. Croyde Bay is as lovely as we remember it from last year - very chilled - just what the doctor ordered! We've had lots of late nights (for Dan and I!) playing board games and 'Buzz' on the play station. It is addictive! Having some lovely meals out (and some nice meals in too!)
Will blog again soon, but just to say we're having a great week. Hope you're all doing well.

It's in the Stars!

Not usually one to pay any attention to my horoscope, I happened to read mine for this week in the free paper....."You say you don't like it when life is unpredictable but you never do as well as you do when you are faced with the unknown. Keep your eyes forward; this week really does mark the beginning of the rest of your life." Oooooh Spooky! Dan's said something about Venus being in Uranus, so not sure what that means for him ! ;)

Preparing to Go West !

Well......The house is sold, a blue van has replaced the BMW (yes, really!), we've resigned from our jobs and we're nearly ready to start 'Our Devon Adventure' ! Are we mad? No.... we just need a really long holiday and want to check we're not missing anything that we don't see whilst spinning round too fast in the hamster wheel of life!

All being well, we're moving out of our lovely little home on 18th August and moving in with 'Danny N' and 'Arnie' for a couple of weeks (thank you!) while we work out our notice. We leave for North Devon on 8th September with our mates, the Pookies, for lots of laughter, many games of "Buzz" on the playstation, a visit to Gnome World, dropping in on our brave mate Vic, who has already "Gone West" and is running a juice bar/cafe there... oh, and maybe the odd glass of something cold. So, that will be Week One !!

Then it's onwards and upwards (although we'll already be in the North, so maybe downwards) to the start of our Devon adventure. Unemployed and homeless, with a few quid in our pockets and many pairs of spare pants, we plan to nose around and see what different parts of Devon might be able to offer us. Don't worry, we're not disappearing, just taking 'time out' - you don't get rid of us that easily! We'll blog again in September and keep you updated with what we see and find... that way, all the people we love and will miss can follow Our Devon Adventure with us... See you there !
